Lucas Perch-Nielsen joins the design jury for Kravlingprisen – an award that celebrates Denmark’s next generation of media professionals.
Meet Jonathan Rebuffo. A rare young talent from the small coastal town of Cassis, just 30 minutes from Marseille. We met Jonathan last year during a poster workshop at ECV Aix-en-Provence. He stood out immediately – not just for his skill, but for the quiet intensity he brings to his work. A kind of poetic precision that’s hard to ignore. For the next four months, he’s part of the studio. We’re thrilled to have him with us.
What happens to community in a design world built on personal brands, solo success and creative ego? In this episode of “Design kan…Tæt på”, Kristina May, Bo Linnemann and Tobias Røder share a conversation about the paradox of an industry that celebrates the idea of community – but rarely comes together to share real insights and experiences. Can we build true connection in a field where everyone seems content to go it alone? And does it even matter – if no one’s listening when we fall?
In this episode of “Design kan…Tæt på”, Tobias Røder and Kristina May share a conversation with Jens Kajus – a fearless and uncompromising designer who opens up about what it means to risk everything for your creative vision. From early success at e-types to the rise and fall of furniture brand Million, Jens shares a raw and personal story about courage, collapse and the power of starting again.
Kristina May and Tobias Røder kick off the first episode of “Design kan…Tæt på” with personal reflections on life as a designer – the doubts, the passion, and the quiet joy of making something that matters. The series pulls back the curtain on the design process, revealing not just how things are made, but how designers feel while making them.
Back in Paris, Tobias Røder and Niklas Press will mentor students from 12 countries during a five-day workshop at Intuit Lab. Together, they’ll explore how to turn a daunting brief – designing a symbol of hope for the planet – into something that resonates. For Tobias and Niklas, it’s more than teaching. It’s a dialogue across cultures, a reminder of the power of perspective, and a rare chance to witness how bold ideas emerge when trust and curiosity lead the way.
Studio Tobias Røder returns to DMJX to lead the now recurring workshop with the Creative Communication students. Each student designs a visual identity for one of their peers – a process that sparks intense conversations, surprising outcomes and meaningful connections. Though the format is the same, the results never are. And for us, it’s a joy and a privilege to return – to teach, to learn, and to be challenged by a new generation of sharp minds.
In the iconic blue DR Concert Hall Tobias Røder gave a talk on design and digital presence. Speaking to the staff at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, he explored how brands behave in a platform-driven world. But more than that, he questioned the very divide between digital and physical – suggesting that algorithms echo in architecture, and that pixels shape perceptions far beyond the screen.
Studio Tobias Røder will lead a week-long workshop at DMJX for second-year Creative Communication students. The students will design visual identities for each other – and experience the thrill (and tension) of presenting their work to peers with strong opinions and high expectations. More than anything, the workshop is about learning to think through design – and about what happens when creativity meets reality, and the conversation becomes part of the process.
Studio Tobias Røder contributes to Anne Mette Hartelius’ book Visuel Identitet — Designprocessen with their identity work for Radio24syv. The case reflects the studio’s approach to designing with both clarity and character – and shows how strong ideas emerge through dialogue, doubt and deep listening. The book is used as a textbook in Danish design schools and offers a rare, inside look at what truly happens in the making of a visual identity.
From 01.11.22 to 20.01.23, Tobias Røder will take part as a guest teacher in a major workshop at the Royal Danish Academy. The course invites students to develop universal design solutions for people with disabilities – combining aesthetics, empathy and accessibility.
Tobias Røder and Lucas Perch-Nielsen return to Aix-en-Provence to lead a week-long workshop at ECV, designed to push fourth-year students beyond their comfort zones – into that rare space where relevance meets originality.
Tobias Røder is described as the greatest graphic designer of his generation – known for his clarity, craft and uncompromising vision. But behind the precision lies a personal story shaped by early struggles. What began as a profile by Markedsføring’s Emil Helweg Foget became something else entirely: a deeply personal letter to his father, exploring creativity, identity, and the quiet weight of legacy.
Tobias Røder met the right mentor at the right time – and went on to become one of Denmark’s most respected graphic designers. In this interview, Euroman’s Teis Jeppe Gørtz asks what it means to be a creative without being an artist. Photo by Paw Gissel.
Tobias Røder and Niklas Press are heading to Paris for a ten-day workshop at Intuit Lab, mentoring fourth-year students as they develop submissions for the international D&AD New Blood competition.
This year, Tobias Røder received the Knud V. Engelhardt Memorial Grant – an honour awarded annually to a designer “who has proven to possess special skills.” The grant was founded in 1932 to commemorate the pioneering Danish designer Knud V. Engelhardt (1882–1931).
In this interview, Tobias Røder reflects on the challenges designers face when shifting from practical executors to strategic thinkers and mass influencers. The piece was selected by Medium’s curators as a recommended article in their Designseries.
Tobias Røder served as president of the graduation jury at ECV Aix-en-Provence, alongside an international panel including Jaron Korvinus (Studio Spass), Claire Huss, Claudia Klat (Spin), Yas Inukai (Walt Disney), Benjamin Grillon, and Mikkel Lemvig (Kontrapunkt).
We’re proud to be featured – not once, but twice – in Thomas Dickson’s landmark book Dansk Design, the definitive work on Danish design past and present. Our packaging design for Skærtoft Mølle and brand identity for Føljeton have both found their place in the canon. To be part of this tradition – and this future – means a lot. Thanks to Thomas Dickson for the recognition.
